On water about 5:30 AM heading toward Black Key. First day out since before Dorian brushed the east coast. Somewhat breezy, 10 - 12 mph, but doable; water was a little choppy. Threw both top water and soft plastics. Not a strike nor follow that I could discern on the top water. Lost a maybe 18" snook on a Houdini paddler-z after it frayed and broke my leader on several jumps. This is the third fish I've lost on cut leader in the past week. I've been using 25 lb. Vanish flourocarbon on 10 lb. braid main line. I'm hesitant to go to 30 lb. leader as my line-to-line knots (double uni) become too large to go through my rod eyelets and I've had no success tying an FG knot. Caught one lady fish on the morning. Off water by noon.

Thanks for the report. I have just recently figured out the F G knot. If you keep tension on the main line and start the first wrap going away from you. Keep your thumb and fore finger on the knot and give a tug after each wrap. I bought some of the new Seaguar Gold Label. Its thinner so you can step up in strength.

Reelit: Thanx for the tip re the FG. I'll probably give it another try.

So, IMHO, it is not the strength of the leader but how abrasion resistant it is due to the abrasive nature of snook gills. I have gone back to 20 lb. mono since tests show it is more abrasion resistant. I don’t feel like it has changed my strike ratio but is has certainly increased my catch ratio! You can Google the tests, they are interesting to watch.

Actually, here is the link to a YouTube video by Salt Strong.

BokeeliaDon Thanks for the link and the tip. I got some of the Ande leader and used it this morning in a canal by my house. Caught 2 snook and a jack. The leader held up great.. Much less expensive also.
