I have run into a really big gator in brackish water, say 11 ft long.

I enjoy fishing the spot from shore for snook but the gator seems to be getting bolder and gets too close for comfort when I catch a fish and am releasing it. And, in this spot I need to wade at least a foot deep to fish it properly. I hate to be scared away from good fishing by a gator but?

Any of you had a similar experience?

I see in another thread where there are a few big gators on Sanibel causing concern to our kayakers.

I do not trust the big ones at all and try to stay away from them.

Things could have gotten really dicey when I used to hang caught fish overboard on a stringer.

Now any fish I keep are put in a cooler chest behind my seat.

Good idea about the cooler. I used to keep fish on a stringer as well. You never know!

Spotted 8ft gator in canal along NW 6th Street in the Cape yesterday about 2 blocks from Burnt Store Road.

Be alert.

Ya gotta respect them.. I find most gators stay away from people.. it's the ones who have lost that fear of humans and want to get close, you should not trusted or tempt faith with. It omly takes one bite to loose a leg or arm.

If there is a gator that is not afriad of humans it should be reported to wildlife officials. They usually don’t attack a human that they can’t swallow, but who knows what kids frequent the area.

I ran into a couple of 6 footers in Pine Island lakes this summer that had no fear and would come way too close for comfort. I reported both to the County Park ranger who reported to?? Do not know what happened to those two gators but at least two new signs appeared warning people that feeding or harassing gators is against state law.
