Bass fishing in NW Cape canals has been slow for a couple of weeks.

Sunday usually brings half dozen bass boats by our backyard canal but not a one this morning.

I made a few casts this evening about 6pm. Still not a hit.

But, about 6:15 our local anhinga showed up and our local river otter. They were both fishing and may sense the cold front coming Monday night and Tuesday.

Landed and released 3 bass today but hooked and lost 3 more.

So, looks like the break in the cold weather was what we needed,

Soft plastics with big bend hook and no weight did the trick.

That is really cool to see. Only heard rumors they were in the Cape Coral area.

I finally got an IT guy to show me how to upload photos to this SWFAA website forum.
Now, if I can only remember the steps.

The largemouth bass on the sea wall was from Cape Coral.

The, baby peacock bass was from Southwest Florida. At least I no longer need to drive to Miami to find them as they are in Naples.

I remember a couple people writing about peacocks in Naples. Have you caught any with size? I was able to do Brazil 3 times and catch some nice ones(never caught a 20lber though). They are some kind of fun. Thought about trying Alligator Ally next visit if I get a windy day. Have you ever fished there? Heard the road is a little sketchy?

I plan to fish the Naples area for peacock bass but expect to wait until they get more active with warmer water. Probably not until May. Then they should remain active and fun until late fall.

The main go-to place is Golden Gate Estates and there is a public boat launch at the public park at the main access canal along the south edge of Golden Gate. This canal is where I have bank fished
and caught a few nice peacocks.

If you are going to fish further east the main access canal runs along the old Tamiami Canal along Hwy 41 east of Naples.

I expect the peacocks are in the canal that is next to I-75 ( Alligator Alley), and it looks nice but it is fenced to keep the Florida Panthers from crossing at will and getting killed.

You can send me a PM before your next trip if you like
