So I made an anchor pole with a 5' long PVC tube with a pointed end and it works great. However, I had read that the scuppers are the weakest point in the kayak and it could cause a leak. Any views on this? If I don't use a scupper, what do you use?

Could cause a crack in the scupper hole.. fixable but pain in arse.. I think I would use the anchor trolley for the pole . Just stick it through your ring on the trolley..I ve paddle a yak half full of water across estero bay not fun, it was was own stupid fault for not securing a floor hatch properly.

I have been using the pvc and scupper hole for 2 and a half years on my wilderness ride 135. My friend has been using it for almost a decade on his tarpon 140. No problems yet. Much more convient to reach back and stick it than all the hassle of trolley. Pvc is not abrasive enough to wear out a scupper. I don't even see evidence of me using it in my scupper hole.imo

I have used PVC with the trolley system. I drilled a hole a couple of inches from the the top put a small piece of rope through it, tied a knot and attached a heavy duty clip which I attach to the trolley ring.
Works fine.
