Hi everyone, I am Ronald. I am new to Kayak fishing. I have mine coming next week. It's a Sundolphin Boss 12. I'll be mostly fishing for trout, Flounder, and redfish. I'll mostly fish off of Matlacha and Pine Island. Any advice?

Welcome to the group. Watch the tide times as moving water provides the best fishing. These fish will normally be found around structure like oyster bars, pot holes on grass flats and points and holes along mangrove shorelines. Good luck and good fishing.

Ron..

Just a few thoughts on safety.
Best to start with shorter trips at first for safety reasons. I recommend wearing a floatation vest at all times. And, a paddle leash will keep you out of big trouble.

Learning the waters around Matlacha and Pine Island will keep you busy for awhile.

I avoid fishing the main boat channels. Too dangerous. I do fish a few of the side channels around Pine Island because they often hold trout.

Flounder are about but I do not know of a sure bet location. I have caught them off of Bokelia and along sandy shorelines with moving water.

Redfish are rare for me because I do not devote much time to them. I fish artificials but know a boater who catches many reds north of Matlacha on shrimp and cut bait close to mangroves edge.

Good luck with your new kayak.
