Anyone been out to Matlacha or Pineland recently?

Haven't been out in a while, got a buddy who wants to try his hand at kayak fishin'

Only places I really used to go are Matlacha and Pineland but with all this crap about algae, red tide and tanic water I'm worried it won't be worth the effort.

Saw some reports from earlier in the month but I'm wondering if anyone has been out to these areas in the past week or so / if so what the water / fishing was like?

Going to try tomorrow , either Pineland or Matlacha. Depends on the radar in the am. Winds out of the SW for the last few days, so red tide should be pushed north. Algae should not be an issue in either place. Check the FWC site for latest redtide report. http://myfwc.com/research/redtide/statewide/ Water will be tanic in certain areas, but shouldn't affect fishing. Use glow or chartreuse lures if it gets too dark.

No go this am, have to wait for another window. Wind will be an issue for the next few days.

Thanks for the info!

Been wanting to get on the water for awhile now but with all this stuff going on wasn't sure if it'd be worth it.

Launched out of GCK in Matlacha this past Wednesday heading north of the bridge. Water dark due to tannic but no signs of red tide nor algae. Fishing a little slow with water temps so high right now.

Tried to launch from Commercial yesterday but weather didn't cooperate. Water was chocolate all the way to Captiva (according to boaters). Drove North and launched from Bookelia. Water was clear but tea colored. Didn't get to fish because we got chased out by storms but will go back North until things settle.

Went north from GCK today. Water was calm early and reasonably clear. Got a smorgasbord of fish, a few small snook, several trout, a couple over 15", a few lady fish, a couple of cats, a snapper and one 33" red. Coming back to launch, we saw what appeared to be clumps of green algae as we got closer to the bridge/Pine Island Road.Wind was coming from south southeast.

Pretty good day, given the conditions. Might be one of the few areas left with fish.
