Went out for one last trip during the tournament. As seems to have been the norm lately the weather was rough. Saw a couple of nice redfish that I was a able to sight cast at but could not entice any takers. I did manage to catch a nice trout just shy of the 24" mark.

I wanted to improve my snook for the overall slam, so I went to some of my favorite winter snook holes near Tropical Point. I didn't see any of the giant snook in their usual winter haunts yet, but I saw a fair number of slot snook and reds cruising the mangroves on the east side of the pass. I caught this on the incoming tide on Reckems Point, snapped a few photos and sent her on her way.

I fished Pineland on Tuesday morning. As expected, the strong NE winds had pushed all of the water out of the Sound. After pulling the yak through the muck, I found enough water to use the fins and tried to stick with that depth until the tide came in. I caught an 18 inch trout on spook jr topwater, and talked a tailing a redfish into chasing the spook. He blew it up three times, but never hooked up. Once the tide came in I followed Dan's advice and fished the area around the buoy next to the ramp, which resulted in a lot of schoolie trout between 14 and 17 inches.

First time out in awhile. Went North and West out of Matlacha searching for reds. Beautiful morning, lots of bait but had a hard time finding the fish. Managed a trashcan slam of pinfish, lizardfish, hard head catfish and a big sailcat. Finally saw a pod of reds working my way, threw a gulp shrimp out in front and just waited hoping one would pick up. Success!

Worked my way to the west wall and worked the bushes almost all the way back to the Sandy Hook bridge before I had another taker. A little smaller but entries anyway.

New tokens are up, off to the home stretch. Good job guys, wish i had time to fish. Lets see those big trout, they should be in and feeding!! Remember you can still upgrade your snook and reds in the final month for your overall slam. Good Luck!!

Any update on a final get together for this tournament? I was looking forward to meeting some new faces and didn't know if I missed something?

I am guessing Captain President Jeff is bogged down teaching snowbirds how to golf right now, but I would be up for a club get together sometime soon.
Maybe we could fish around Matlacha and go to Bert's afterwards... we could even do a 6-7 hour mini-tourney, launching at 6:30 at the Matlacha, reporting back at 12:30 or 1:30...
just a thought.
