Dropping in to lurk a bit. My wife and I are considering SW Florida for retirement in a few years, so would like to come up to speed on the fishing scene generally, and kayak fishing specifically.

I fish out of an Outback, trolling lakes for trout and kokanee, also the Willamette and Columbia rivers for steelhead, salmon and sturgeon. Crab the saltwater bays of Tillamook, Netarts, and Nehalem. Also fish the saltwater bays for salmon, steelhead, cut throat trout, rockfish and cabezon. I am also a firm believer than one should not own a powerboat; one should have friends who own powerboats and drift boats, so I do fish for all of the above from those boats as well. I also fish the surf, which is really just a surf perch fishery.

I am also a volunteer guide with two chapters of HOW here in Oregon.

Welcome to SW Florida and this website.

I spent many years in Western Oregon so know about all of the places you mention.
But, I did not try a kayak until I moved to Florida in 2004. I can kick myself for not starting earlier in life. But, the drift boats were fun on the rivers.

You cant go wrong with Southwest Florida right now but it could get overcrowded similar to the SE coast of Florida.
