Hey All,

Went out today, and despite my best efforts could not catch any live bait. My cast netting skills are boarderline humerous, but I can get a half-moon on average. So, without live bait, tried softs and only got some Jacks. Saw some big Sheeps, but they wouldn't take my offering.

Is there a bait shop in the Estero vicinity that opens before 7? Thinking I should get some live bait and try the standard float rigs. Any recommendations (Estero B&T opens at 7).

Thanks,

Jeff

Not sure what time they open, I don;t use live bait, but when I was last at Estero River Outfitters they have a B&T in the back...

Estero River Outfitter is the go-to in Estero..
Master Bait and Tackle is always good.
Fish Trap Marina also good.
Also most boat ramp tackle shops will have most everything you need (Lovers Key Boat Ramp, Cocohatchee River Marina, etc.)

Thanks all... Already home from a good week in the area.

Wanting to be on the water at first light makes it challenging if the bait shops open at sun-up. Went to Lover's Key one of the mornings. Shop opens at 630, but this day it was at 645. No live bait... had to mess around until 8 and then they were restocked. Didn't matter as I just couldn't figure out the area.

Best day was yesterday in Rookery... great area with a lot of deep cuts. Smalls of just about everything (no reds) and one keeper Sheep. Had to let it go since I was getting on a plane later that day.

See you next December....

Jeff

So true, Jeff. I'd pay a premium price if I could get live bait at 4:00 AM for example. I know it's probably a feasible idea, but it's my dream that a shop in my area manages to find a model to do that.

I live in MA and our live bait is either more easily "caught" or lives longer overnight (eels/worms), but in the Spring/Summer/Fall, there are many shops open as early as 5-6am.

If I could just find/learn of either general locations or environments the bait fish prefer in SWFL, at least then I might have a shot at getting live bait...
