I went to Wiggins Pass yesterday and noticed the parking lot which is normally busy with charter boats was almost empty. I went in to pay my launch fee and was told by the attendant that red tide moved in yesterday killing a bunch of fish. I decided to fish anyway since it has been my hotspot lately. Big mistake. Dead fish were stuck in the mangrove roots and just about everywhere I roamed. Not in great numbers like last year, but still a lot of dead fish. Mostly mullet and baitfish. Not a bite could be found. After 4 hours I packed it up.

I don't know how long it will take to recover. I guess I should start looking at fishing reports before I pick my spot. The charter captains knew not to fish Wiggins yesterday.
