Launched about 10:30 am along with EMO on the low negative .4 tide. Went directly west to Black Key. Fished some of the east wall and around the north shore to the back channel, and then the back of "no name". We then headed east along the north side of "no name" and Black Key and then back to the launch, at about 4:30 or so. Between us we caught quite a few trout, mostly in the 19/20" range along with several reds on the smallish side, all around 16" or so. A front had come through the night before along with some light rain. Temperatures remained in the upper 60's/low 70's for much of the day and the sky was overcast. Water was not as clear today as it had been recently.

Can you direct me to a map that shows the name of the keys in Pine Island sound within reach of the Historical Marker?

Google Maps on satellite shows them all but, without names.

That was my go-to area for trout when I lived on the Island before 2015.
Glad the trout are still there and good sized.

I am not all that computer literate nor am familiar with the "Historical Marker"; however, between Google Earth and Bing Aerial I can pick up the names of most of the keys/islands. If you would like, give me a cal (PM) and I can try to talk you through my routes.

I am just curious and likely will not be committing my SOT/paddle type kayak to salt until this summer and then only for short trips. Google Earths tool/ruler says it is 1.57 miles from the Pineland shore to Black Key. So, you are probably doing at least 4 miles round trip.

My usual trip is up to about 7.5 miles round trip. On occasion, depending on weather, wind, etc, I may go less. I'm like the proverbial bear that climbed up the mountain and saw another mountain, only with islands.

Morning Guys,

Spending spring break at the Tarpon Lodge and will be fishing from a 17' flats boat. After reading some posts it sounds as the water in the Sound around the islands might be too shallow for me. I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions to put my lady on some fish.

Appreciate it.

You will be fine in the sound(most of the day) in a flats boat. Just check the tides when you arrive. I like the capeweather.com site. Anything over + .5 tide and you should be able to go almost anywhere. You can see a lot of the islands in these posts right from Tarpon Lodge, also a great place to eat dinner. Have fun.
